My daughter inspired me to paint dogs, when she asked me to make a painting of our French bulldog puppy, Meru, for her college dorm room. Every dog has it's own personality. When painting, I attempt to portray that dog's unique characteristics. My dog portraits are close up revealing the details of their wrinkles, whiskers and eyes. I prefer to create a background color that will highlight the dog's beautiful coat. My intent is that the viewer gathers a familiarity with the dog through the characteristics I have created through paint.

I am currently taking commissioned portraits of dogs and cats. I work from a photograph in which I can take or the owner can supply. I prefer good quality photos as my paintings are based on the photo. A good source of light on the animal will help to create a good painting. I am happy to photograph your animal if necessary. My pet portraits usually have a simple background color which complements the animal. Please allow six weeks for me to complete.

Meet the Artist

After extended travels in Italy and France, the love of the region's local produce and flora has become a central theme in my work. I strive to portray a "portrait" of each of my subjects. Painting the beauty of the somewhat mundane object is an inspiring challenge for me. Everything that I paint once had a life and continues to in my oil paintings.
